What is a Disc Herniation?
Disc Herniation refers to the condition where a disc in the spine ruptures or bulges out of its normal position, pressing on nearby nerves. This can cause pain, numbness, and weakness, most commonly in the lower back but can also occur in the neck.
Mechanism of Injury:
Disc herniation often occurs due to degenerative changes in the spine as we age, leading to the discs becoming less flexible and more prone to tearing or rupturing with even a minor strain or twist. Heavy lifting, sudden movements, or trauma can also cause a disc to herniate.
Symptoms

Localised Pain: Sharp or burning pain in the back or neck, depending on the location of the herniation.

Radiating Pain: Pain that travels down the leg (sciatica) or arm, often associated with lower back or neck herniation, respectively.

Numbness or Tingling: In the limbs, where the affected nerves provide sensation.
